We are excited to share our newly published study in the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment examining early outcomes from the Minnesota Addiction Recovery Initiative (MARI) Safe Station program. This fire station–based, peer-led deflection model allowed 174 individuals to self-refer for substance use support over 18 months, with most receiving same-day assessment and rapid connection to treatment or harm-reduction services. The findings highlight the value of trusted, non-law-enforcement access points and peer recovery specialists in expanding equitable access to care while reducing stigma.
Our work from 2019 was formally evaluated and published in a peer reviewed journal titled “International Emergency Nursing.” Our article titled “Evaluating the Impact of a Training Program in Prehospital Trauma Care and Mental Health for Traffic Police in Arusha, Tanzania,” can be viewed by following this link: Click Here
