2025 Training Recap
During the first two weeks of August 2025, KOPI Medical returned to Tanzania for an intensive national training focused on prehospital emergency medicine and mental health. Firefighters from every region of the country participated, creating a rare opportunity for cross-regional learning, shared problem solving, and standardized skill development. The clinical curriculum emphasized evidence-based emergency care in resource-variable settings, alongside practical approaches to mental health assessment, crisis response, and provider well-being for first responders.
In addition to firefighter training, our team hosted a WHO mhGAP-based training for physicians, nurses, and support staff, with focused discussions on evidence-informed interventions for common mental health conditions. These sessions emphasized practical assessment, early intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration within existing health systems. Participants engaged in case-based learning and discussions grounded in real-world clinical challenges.
The training also included a tour of the national fire department facilities, offering valuable insight into operational structure and future opportunities for collaboration. The final day’s graduation ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner General, underscoring national leadership support for ongoing investment in emergency and mental health capacity building. We are honored to have been formally invited to return in August 2026 to continue and expand this work.
